Description: This interactive virtual workshop is for practitioners working on gender and social inclusion issues in the context of economic development. There are two main parts to this workshop. First is an exploration of how gender affects and is affected by key issues in economic development, specifically: entrepreneurship, labor, care work, access to finance, international trade, the digital economy, STEM, agricultural production, and climate change. Second, the workshop will teach and practice using various analytical approaches for understanding and addressing these issues, such as economic empowerment, market systems development, gender lens investing, intersectional political economy, decolonization, and human rights-centered approaches. All of this will be done through a lens toward intersectionality and how gender fits into a broader vision of social justice.

This course is being delivered in partnership with Equilo. All participants will receive temporary access to the Equilo GESI Contextual Analysis Tool for the duration of the course and a 10% discount off any of their data plans.

Participants will also receive a copy of a manual with key terms, concepts and templates.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand how gender affects and is affected by key issues in economic development

  • To explore and critically analyze various approaches in the development sector to address gender inequality and injustices

  • To practice applying gender analysis with an intersectional lens in the context of economic development programming
