This testimonial was written by Marte Sørensen, an associate at UNFPA, who participated in the Gender, Peacebuilding and Human Security course with Urooj Mian, MSc, LL.M. of SHE Associates Inc. in September 2022. Learn more about the course here.
I was so lucky to participate in the training on gender, peacebuilding and human security with Urooj Mian.
Before starting the training, I had been checking out the reading lists for the training days and they were of great interest, thus I was very excited to start the course and get to know my fellow participants. I really liked how we started the first day with discussions on power dynamics and intersectionality. I also liked the way in which Urooj kindly guided us with her knowledge, using exercises, and through the discussions we had.
We were a group of five women from different parts of the world, and it was excellent how the colleagues could provide their experiences and we could learn from each other. I really appreciated this part.
The readings were very interesting and I have reverted back to a few of them to read them again after the course. The exercises we had were engaging and very fruitful for applying the knowledge we have gained.
In my opinion, the course is very relevant for everyone, the knowledge it provided is especially useful for me in my current work and I know it will also be a good asset for my future jobs. I apply what I learned regularly both at work, but also in my personal life as I have gained a deeper understanding of intersectionality and applying a gendered approach. This guides me in my approach with my colleagues, friends and new acquaintances.
I highly recommend the training with Urooj on Gender, Peacebuilding and Human Security.
