Testimonial by Tambria Schroeder about "Feminist and Ethical Artificial Intelligence"
February 23, 2023
This testimonial was written by Tambria Schroeder in November 2022 after she completed the Feminist Artificial Intelligence 101 course with Emily Springer, PhD. New sessions for this course - now titled Ethical Artificial Intelligence - are open for registration.
"As November comes to a close and I reflect on all the things that I am thankful for this year, I wanted to share some brief thoughts on the Feminist AI 101 training that I am grateful to have received a scholarship to attend through the Cynara Gender Training Platform and Consulting in October and continue to benefit from every day!
Emily Springer, PhD cultivated a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all attendees, tailored the curriculum to our unique interests, provided us with an incredible range of resources before, during and after the course, and explained complex topics in ways that were not only easy to understand but also interesting and fun.
The diversity of experiences and knowledge represented in our training cohort only made the course stronger. I feel so fortunate to be connected to such a thoughtful community of feminist practitioners moving forward.
We also had the opportunity to share and discuss examples from our particular fields of interest, which I found very enlightening, and it further solidified my commitment to work on policy issues at the nexus of gender, peace, security and technology.
With the knowledge that I gained through this introductory Feminist AI 101 training course, I feel more confident about engaging with technical experts on the social ramifications of artificial intelligence and the necessity of infusing a feminist lens into our approach to various cybersecurity issues.
Whether you are just getting started with learning about AI or how to approach emerging technologies using feminist methodologies, there is something in this course for everyone.
